Congratulations John and Ben

Congratulations to John Porter and Ben Spearman for obtaining competitive summer undergraduate research fellowships to support their summer research in our lab!  John is creating nanopatterned materials for directing cardiac tissue formation and Ben is researching the role of nitric oxide in cardiogenesis.

Wes Grove is presenting a poster on his research “Ablation of the HCN4 Ion Channel in Differentiating Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocytes via Zinc Finger Nuclease Mutation” at International Society of Stem Cell Research Annual Meeting 2012 in Yokohama, Japan.

Congratulations to lab members Alexander Hodge, Petra Kerscher, and Wesley Grove! Alex won first place for his oral presentation in the Graduate Scholars Symposium.  Petra won first place for her poster presentation in the Graduate Scholars Symposium.  Wes won first place in the Undergraduate Research Forum STEM Oral Presentation competition.

Research profile on our work

Our research on differentiation of cardiomyocytes using encapsulation in hydrogel microspheres was recently featured in an AU research profile. Masters student Sam Chang was primarily responsible for the work.
