Morgan named Graduate Student Volunteer of the Year!

Congratulations to Lipke Lab graduate researcher Morgan Ellis for being named the Graduate Student Volunteer of the Year by the college of engineering! This award recognizes those students who go above and beyond to assist the college with its K-12 outreach initiatives. We are so proud of you, Morgan!

Lipke Lab wins big at the Graduate Engineering Research Showcase!

For the second year in a row, every Lipke Lab researcher who presented at the Auburn Graduate Engineering Research Showcase won an award! Iman Hassani won 3rd place overall, Morgan Ellis and Ferdous Finklea each won honorable mentions, and Mohammad Hashemi won best in chemical engineering. Over 120 graduate engineering students presented at the showcase and our lab members won 4 out of 9 awards they were eligible for! It is safe to say that we are very, very proud of their hard work and presentation skills.

Nicole wins at the O’Neal Cancer Center Research Retreat

Congratulations to Lipke Lab graduate researcher, Nicole Habbit, for winning 2nd place overall in the graduate student category at the 21st annual O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center Research Retreat! Her presentation was titled “Prostate Cancer-on-a-chip Platform for in vitro Anti-cancer Therapeutic Evaluation”.

Gabi and Luke win at the Auburn Research Symposium

Congratulations to Lipke Lab undergraduates Gabi and Luke for winning 1st and 2nd place overall in the STEM category for their oral presentations at the university-wide Auburn Student Research Symposium! We are so proud of both of them for their dedication to their research and phenomenal presentations!

SFB STAR Awards

Congratulations to Iman Hassani for receiving the Society for Biomaterials STAR Award, which recognizes research excellence, outstanding contribution to the meeting, and develops future leaders within SFB! Iman was very excited to have the opportunity to travel to Seattle for the first time, present our lab’s cancer tissue engineering work, and to network with other SFB members throughout the meeting. Morgan Ellis also received an Honorable Mention for the STAR Award!

Dr. Lipke and Yuan win LAUNCH Innovation Grant Funding

Congratulations to Dr. Lipke and PhD Candidate, Yuan Tian, for receiving the LAUNCH Innovation Grant! Their proposal, “Flexible microfluidic platform for rapid production of uniform cell-laden hydrogel microtissues,” was funded to commercialize our tissue microsphere encapsulation system. From Dr. Lipke, “We are very excited to receive this award. Our system for producing tissue microspheres has the potential to advance a wide range of fields, including drug discovery, therapeutic cell production, bioprinting and veterinary and human regenerative medicine. This funding will enable us to take important steps in bringing this technology from the lab to industries that can use it.”.  For more information, please read the Auburn Engineering news article.

AURIC Fellowships Renewed!

Congratulations to Lipke Lab graduate members, Nicole and Iman, on the renewal of their AURIC Fellowships! Nicole’s work is entitled “Three-dimensional engineered tumor models for in vitro recapitulation of the native tumor microenvironment” and Iman’s work is entitled “Investigation of obesity-induced colorectal cancer risk in three-dimensional tissue engineered models of patient-derived xenograft tumors”.

AU Distinguished Dissertation Award

We are so excited to congratulate former Lipke Lab member, Dr. Shantanu Pradhan, on receiving the Auburn University Distinguished Dissertation award for his work “Three-dimensional Tissue-engineered Cancer Models for Tumorigenic Studies and Drug-testing Applications”! As this university-wide honor is only awarded once every two years, Shantanu was selected from a very large pool of Auburn doctoral graduates and we couldn’t be more proud of him! Congratulations, Dr. Pradhan! We wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
